Port Tobacco River Health Alerts The Port Tobacco River Conservancy is working with the Charles County Commissioners & the County Health Department to post at all swimming & boating areas whenever the river is unhealthy for water contact.

Seining with the Coastal Conservation Ass'n In the Port Tobacco River, in 3 hours in June 2005, six people netted 8 carp, 8 crabs, 133 small croaker, 42 banded killifish, 3 striped killifish, 2 mummichugs, 45 inland silversides, 2 small stripped bass, 280 white perch, 2 yellow perch, 92 spottail shiners, 3 gizzard shad, 1 blue catfish, and 1 channel catfish. In August 2005, similar seining occured, with similar results.
